OUR PHILOSOPHY
Learning to swim is about so much more than survival or kicking and blowing bubbles.
Learning to swim is an emotional experience for your child as much as a physical one, so there is a gentle “whole child” approach to our classes. We teach through “mindful play,” during which foundational skills are introduced and reinforced. Children learn best when they are enjoying themselves and feeling successful, rather than anxious about their performance, so we customize our lessons, tailoring them to each child’s strengths and weaknesses, learning style and personality, using positive reinforcers to encourage their progress.
Learning to swim early in life has significant cognitive, social, emotional and physiological benefits. Longitudinal studies have confirmed that children who take part in swimming lessons from the age of 2 months to 4 years are more able to adapt to new situations and have more self-assurance and independence than non-swimmers. It has been determined that children who were taught to swim by 5 years of age have statistically higher IQs due to increased brain activity. During swimming communication ramps up between the right and left hemispheres and all four lobes of the brain!
It is wonderful to be right in the middle of so much growth for so many children. We are blessed to see miracles every day. Shy children have unfurled into confidence. Previously non-verbal children have begun to speak during their lessons. Somber and fearful children have erupted with laughter at their new-found source of joy.
Learning to swim has been the source of trauma for so many. We're grateful that we can make it enjoyable for our little ones, as they learn to swim and love it.
